Artist Statement

I draw and paint because I feel. I express my feelings through art, just as I do when I am gardening, or writing or loving. Feelings take all forms. Sometimes sadness. Sometimes anger and rage. I live in a violent country in a violent world. I feel devotion and awe often when encountering the natural world. I am sometimes frightened by love and made weak by the beauty of the human form. I am respectful of the vulnerability of the planet and those who call it home, or try to. I love poetry and flowers, and music. I love the way Mavis Staples’ voice goes through me, dragging joy and tears over the rhythms of life. 

I love a wonderful man and he loves me. I love our dog Ivy, and loved Venus and Lucy before her.
